By Road from the East (See below if you have a high vehicle!)

Travelling along the A69 from the East (Newcastle) take the right turn to Greenhead where the A69 becomes dual carriageway 2 miles West of Haltwhistle. At Greenhead turn left then immediately right following the B6318 to and through Gilsland. At the junction where the Bridge Inn is on your left, turn right, cross the bridge over the river. Turn left at the junction (following the B618) signposted Birdoswald and continue for 2 miles to the show field. (Do NOT turn left to Birdoswald, at Kiln Hill after 1 mile, but continue past Slack House Farm.) The Show field is on the left.

NB. If you are travelling in a high vehicle from the East it would be prudent to continue on the A69 until the Spadeadam and Gilsland right turn and then follow the directions below, in order to avoid the low railway bridge to the East of the show field. Our map shows the alternative route, avoiding the low bridge.

By Road from the West

Travelling along the A69 from the West (Carlisle) take the left turn signed Spadeadam and Gilsland, after the Northumberland county border sign. In Gilsland follow the road around to the left, over the river bridge. Turn left at the junction (following the B618) signposted Birdoswald and continue for 2 miles to the show field. (Do NOT turn left to Birdoswald, at Kiln Hill after 1 mile, but continue past Slack House Farm.) The Show field is on the left.
